50 to 60 percent of children are affected by disasters (UNICEF, 2014).
When disasters happen, be they natural or made by humanity, children are often faced with food shortages, lack of clean water, loss of shelter and the death of loved ones. These factors make them vulnerable to physical injury, disease, disruption of education and separation from families.
We are committed to helping families who are affected by disasters and will continue to do so. During disasters, our staff assist families with their immediate needs and recovery from the crisis.
Our disaster management gives priority to children, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, and empower them (together with their families and communities) to improve their well-being.
This is our Youth Empowerment innovation to give space to young people in the community to have access to sustainable and profitable means of livelihoods, training of Income Generating Activities and financial management support. And to learn about modern method of farming by transforming their mind set from subsistence to Commercial farming.
